Elba Island, the biggest Island of the Tuscan Archipelago, is today a natural paradise. It is world known for harbouring the French Emperor Napoleon in 1814 during his exile, however its glorious history goes back to the Etruscans and to the Romans. The Island has rich deposits of iron which made it very appealing to both civilizations.
Discover the history, the local products, the wine & food, and the people of Elba Island. I’m sure you will fall in love just as I did!
Guests:
Roberto Bechi, guide and expert on Etruscan history, will tell us about the glorious past of the Island during the Iron Age and how this history shaped the Island to what it is today.
Antonio Arrighi, a fourth generation winemaker, will tell us the story of his wines: each has a special meaning and is linked to this territory and its archaeological history. Antonio, in cooperation with the University of Siena, has started experimenting aging wine in amphoras, just like they did 2000 years ago! We will also discover his Aleatico Wine, a delicious local DOCG sweet wine!
Gabriele Messina, from Elba Magna, will tell us about his sweets made according to traditional recipes and personally collected from the elderly people of Elba.
With the participation of: Silvia Cervini, local hiking guide, and Sara Frattale, a friend of mine, who will tell us about how Elba Island changed her life.
